Abstract     A syncope may be caused by numerous etiologic factors, new ones being discovered constantly. From the tabular survey of etiologic factors the variegation of the problem is evident, but special attention is focused on reflex conditioned and neurogenously conditioned syncopes. On the basis of data regarding mortality of patients with cardiogenous syncope, which is significantly higher than mortality in the group of patients with other syncope causes and higher than in the group of patients in which the syncope cause was not elucidated, in setting the diagnosis it is reasonable to first exclude those causes which present a direct risk to the patient: possible myocardial infarction and hemorrhage, arrhythmia and other cardial causes of syncope. The framework of the diagnostic scheme is given and therapy guidelines are determined.
