Abstract     Syncope in children is a common but usually benign event. Sometimes it may be caused by life-threatening diseases. Detailed evaluation and therapy should be considered for patients who have myocardial disease or arrhythmias, syncope during exercise or who have a family history of sudden death. The treatment of specific syncopes is targeted against their causes. Patients with vasovagal and orthostatic syncope can prevent it by avoiding the provocation factors, using the physical maneuvres that increase muscular tension during the prodromal symptoms, and by adequate hydration.
