Abstract | We are describing some cases of arrhythmia in children treated at the Department of Paediatrics in Maribor between 1.1.1993 and 31.12.1997. Our retrospective study includes all children who had experienced a life-threatening arrhythmias. The arrhythmia was proven by ECG during attack and afterwards as well as by 24- hour ECG recording. In the mentioned period of time,13 children were treated. The most frequent were supraventricular tachycardias (6 children), followed by ventricular tachycardias (3 children), stage II atrio-ventricular block (2 children), sick sinus syndrome and atrial fibrillation (one child each). The patents were treated with medication, two required pace maker, two cases improved by themselves, one patient was not treated. As is life-threatening, severe arrhythmia requires immediate referral to hospital and treatment, with continuous monitoring of heart action (ECG monitoring). After discharge from hospital, the patient should be followed-up further to allow us to follow the success of treatment. | |
