Abstract		Respiratory failure develop when is a defect in the respiratory sistem, resulting in an arterial oxygen tension and/or arterial carbon dioxide tension outside the normal range. The basic mechanisem of abnormal gas exchange in the lung are hypoventilation, ventilation-perfusion inequality, shunt and diffusion impairment.
