Abstract     Foreign bodies in lower respiratory tract (trachea and large bronchus) present an immediate emergency, whereas foreign bodies in oespohagus can present a life threatening situation. We have extracted 132 foreign bodies in last 5 years, 90 from the oespophagus and 42 from the lungs tract. Most of the patients with the airway foreign bodies were younger than 5 years and most of the patients with foreign bodies in the oespohagus were older than 60 years. Foreign bodies in the tracheobronchial tree of a child are always life threatening whereas in the oesophagus they do not represent an immediate danger, but there are some serious complications during a removal of the impacted foreign body in oesophagus. In our series all treacheobronchial tree foreign bodies were removed in general anesthesia, with rigid instrument and no complications. Most of the foreign bodies impacted in oesophagus were removed in local anesthesia. In 2 out of 90 patients (2.2%) there was a perforation of the oesophageal wall, that we treated conservatively. None of the patients was lost.
