Abstract     The ethnic identity research is characterised in particular by stressing, the originality and indispensability, the instrumental value and the situational determinants of the ethnic identity. Special attention is paid to the oppressed identity of de-privileged ethnic groups and conflictive ethnic and cultural identity. There are four continuities that are most often stated as basic determinants of ethnicity: territorial, biological-genetical, linguistic and political continuity. Nevertheless, in reality many of them do not appear necessarily. There are several kinds of de-privileged or oppressed identity. The must important of them are: alienated identity, doubted identity, denied identity, absent identity and not elaborated identity. Difficulties in the formation, preservation, and renovation of identity uppear above all on three levels: on the reality level, on the conceptual level, and on the level of the relation between the concept and reality.
