Abstract     Numerous experimental and epidemiological studies have revealed the relationship between an elevated blood cholesterol value and development of atherosclerosis. In the first instance, the recommendation would be to avoid the weight gain readily contributed to dietary fat and cholesterol. The more restricted feeding should definitely reduce intake of saturated fat to < 10% energy and cholesterol < 200 mgld. The bulk of dietary energy should derive from cereal grains and vegetables with a generous supply of fruit as snack-food. We would recommend also regular body exercise and consumation of averrage amount of antioxidants, such as vitamin E and vitamin C to protect vulnerable lipoproteins from peroxidation. It is necessary to avoid trans fatty acids, and consume the visible fat only in the form of salad dressing oils. Fat spreads, cheeses and milk should be avoided.
Summary     Številni poskusi in epidemiološke študije so pokazale povezavo med povišanim krvnim holesterolom in razvojem ateroskleroze. Priporočili bi najprej preprečevanje zviševanja telesne teže zaradi maščob. Najbolj pomembno je skrčiti nasičene maščobe pod 10% dnevno zaužite energije in pod 200 mg holesterola na dan. Glavni del energije je potrebno pokriti z žitnimi izdelki in zelenjavo in z obilico sadja kot dodatnimi dnevnimi obroki. Priporočali pa bi še redno telesno dejavnost in uživanje povprečne količine antioksidantov, kot npr. vitamina E in C za varovanje občutljivih lipoproteinov pred oksidacijo. Izključiti moramo tudi transmaščobne kisline. Vidne maščobe lahko uživamo le v obliki solatnih olj. Ne smemo uživati nobenih mastnih namazov ali sirov. Pijemo lahko le posneto mleko.
