Abstract     The physiology of micturition is described. Anatomical background, necessary for understanding the complex act of micturition, which conditions continence, is analyzed. The complex system of nerve conduction and receptors that regulate the transmission of nerve impulses from the urinary bladder to the micturition centres in the central nervous system is described. The emphasis is given to neuroanathomic characteristics, the knowledge of which helps to understand the mechanism of micturition and conseguently affects the decision on the mode of treatment.
