Abstract     Epidemiology of female urinary incontinence is described. The prevalence of urinary incontinence ranges between 16.0 % and 52.6 %. Presented are the results of statistical analysis of the survey carried out among 3047 women in Slovenia. The survey included the women from all regions of Slovenia, of different age groups, professions, constitutional types and parity. The results of analysis show the overall prevalence of female urinary incontinence in Slovenia to be 34.4 %. The prevalence rate increases with age; in the age group 20- 29 years it is 16.0 %, and in the age group 45-64 years it is 40 % (p < 0.05). In women over 65, living in nursing homes, the incidence of female urinary incontinence is 57.2 %. The prevalence of female urinary incontinence in administrative workers differs significantly from the one in physical workers (28.6 % us 38.0 %; p < 0.05). The prevalence of female winary incontinence in women with a pyknic constitution (45.1 %) differs signficantly (p < 0.05) from the one in women with athletic (23.8 %) and asthenic constitution (32.0 %). The prevalence of female urinary incontinence in nulliparas (18.8 %) differs significantly from the one in multiparas (52.8 %; p < 0.05). Urinary incontinence affects 75.9 % of women either at work and/or in social life, however, only 13.6 % of resporiders consider the degree of incontinence so severe as to require medical treatment.
