Abstract     Parkinson's disease is a slowly progressing chronic disease affecting the central nervous system. A disability scale in five stages with respect to rigidity, tremor, muscular tone, disorders of movement and balance is used. The role of physiotherapist in the rehabilitation team is to assess the patient's functional abilities and to prepare the physiotherapeutical programme accordingly, consisting of techniques for increasing and maintaining of range of movement injoints, diminishing muscular rigidity, balance improvement and gait. He or she advises the relatives how to manage the patient and his environment at home.
