Abstract     The Halliwick method of teaching swimming is based on the scientific principles of hydromechanics and biomechanics in combination with teaching methods, which include group work and take into account the swimmer's abilities. The swimmers learn how to retain or assume positions which enable breathing, they learn to control breathing, to control or carry out all rotations and finally basic strokes within the swimmers' abilities. The final result is a swimmer, who is free and confdent in water and is able to control his movements. Children with cerebral palsy have deficiency in development of rotations in spontaneoous movement. The influence and assistance of water in carryng out rotations within the framework of the Halliwick method of teaching swimming is presented.
