Abstract     Alliums are of big economical importance worldwide and localy. Many of them are only vegetatively propagated and this way viruses can be carried into new generations and single plants are usually infected with more than one virus. The most common viru5es infecting Alliums are potyviruses, carlaviruses and allexiviruses. Onion, garlic and shallot plants with visible symptoms were tested for the presence of filamentous viruses. Samples were oollected in three different parts of Slovenia in 1998. Wdh ELISA onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV) was found in onion and shallot and leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV) and shallot latent virus (SLV) in shallot. In earlier experiments garlic was found to be infected with all these viruses and also with garlic common latent virus (GCLV). Different allexiviruses were found to infect garlic and shallot. Differences were found in the presencee of viruses in samples from different parts of Slovenia.
