Abstract     We compared a 25G Sprotte needle with 25G Quincke needle in a randomised study of 79 patients (46% females), aged 17-18 years. No patient reported postdural puncture headache. Two patients (2,5%, 5,0% inside group) suffered with nonspecific headache, both with the Quincke needle, with no significant difference between the two groups. Fifteen patients (18,9%) reported backpain also with no significant differences between the two groups. Ease of identification of the subarachnoid space was the same for both needle types.
