Abstract     Conus crown constructions are a widely accepted procedure, applied routinely in the prosthetic rehabilitation of partially edentulous patients. Compared to a standard full denture, an overdenture supported with conus crowns is exposed to greater chewing forces. Consequently the metal framework must be adequately thick to resist the chewing load and at the same time provide firm and rigid attachment for individual elements. The paper deals with failures of conus constructions observed by the author over the past 10 years. In most cases, failure was due to fracture of the metal framework. The causes of fracture are analysed and some clinical and laboratory procedures that may be used to prevent this type of failure are recommended.
