Abstract | Lower arch crowding resulting in severe inclination of a premolar is commonly managed by extraction of the malerupted tooth without prior evaluation of the status of third molars. The paper presents a method whereby the premolar is preserved and its position corrected following extraction of both third molars. A surgical technique for the extraction of horizontally impacted third molars is described. Damage to bony structures is avoided by fragmentation of the tooth. The method should be individually adapted to the anatomical and topographic peculiarities of the impacted tooth. Figures 1 and 2 show the outcome after 8 months of orthodontic treatment. | |
