Abstract     The aim of the present study was to explore and evaluate the degree of radiomucositis in irradiated patients. The patients were randomized into three groups. Group A consisted of patients receiving pilocarpine, group B of those receiving biperiden during radiotherapy and pilocarpine for six weeks after its completion, while group C comprised patients not receiving any medication during or after radiotherapy. All our results regarding treatment-related damage to the oral mucosa indicate that the degree of radiomucositis is influenced by the quantity of saliva secreted. In the patients receiving pilocarpine and in the controls, radiomucositis was more pronounced than in the patients treated with biperiden.
