Abstract     Disabled children are more susceptible to oral disease than their healthy peers. Like other risk groups, they need an adjusted programme of dental care, which must be tailored to their special needs as well as to the capabilties of their parents. The paper presents an adjusted programme of dental care implemented at the Dobrna Centre, which provides residential care to 64 children with moderate to severe disabilities. The programme concentrates on preventive care and is carried out by community dental personnel in close co-operation with the professional staff of the Centre. Introduced about 10 years ago, the programme has given very good results. The mean DMFT score of the Dobrna inmates (2.26), the proportion of caries-free children in the group (33%), and the mean annual increase in DMFT (0.5) compare well with the corresponding data for the general population.
