Abstract     Sexuality has always been a reflection of Men's philosophy of life, their comprehension of the world and their own position in it. The aim of the research was to estimate the basic knowledge of eight-graders about healthy sexuality, the characteristics of the process of sexual informing and their sexual experiences at the end of their compulsory education and to find out which factors accelerate or impede the young adolescents when deciding for their first sexual intercourse. 1217 eight-graders took part in an anonymous questionnaire, carried out in 1997-a representative sample for Slovenia. Applying the Ajzen model of planned behaviour theory a multiple regression and correlation were used to estimate the linear influence of independent variables (attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control) on dependent variable (behavioural intention of having a sexual intercourse). Statistical characteristic of differences between sexes and between pupils regarding the location of their school was established by x 2 test and analysis of variance. On the basis of determinants of urban settlements and the number of population schools were divided into city schools and other schools. As the results show, the majority of the inquired got their first sexual information from their parents rather late, after the age of ten. Mothers were the main sexual informants at home and also the most wanted ones. Fathers rarely took an active part in sexual education. The majority of the inquired got the first sexual information at school not earlier than in their fifth year of schooling. The main Informants were media and coevals. In general they would like to have more information. The elementary knowledge of the inquired, concerning sexual maturing, contraception, conception, and conditions for a healthy development of foetus is rather poor.
