Abstract		Patients with disorders are given causal treatment, but in the course of diagnostic evaluation and preparation for surgery they receive symptomatic therapy. In most cases this consists of transfusions of blood, its components and plasma. With appropriate preoperative preparation, including provision of adequate haemoglobin levels and haemostasis, and prevention of infection, injured persons nad other patients are ensured successful operative treatment.
