Abstract     Family planning has become a universally acceped wisdom of every modern society. Nevertheless this concept is still in danger, especially in Europe and other countries with low fertility levels. The obstacles concerning concept, accessibility and attributes of contraceptive methods as well as the effects on responsible contraceptive behaviour are discussed in details. Respectively the effects of the perspectives of policymakers, providers and users of contraceptives as well as social, familial and personal pressures on these hurdles are stressed. At the end of the article the effectiveness of the family planning around the world and in Slovenia is critically examined and the reasons for slow development of responsible contraceptive behavior in our country are also considered.
