Abstract     Clinically, periarthritis humero-scapularis (PHS) covers all degenerative and certain inflammatory changes on all anatomical structures that vuild shoulder joint. Due to differential and variable clinical picture as well as organic and functional consequences we can say that PHS is a syndrome. Macrotraumas followed with degenerative changes and sometimes complicated with inflammation on one side and vasomotorical changes on the other side ethiologically closes the circulus vitiosis of this syndrome. We worked with two groups of sportsmen (volleyball players) with developed PHS syndrome. One group (control group - 20 players) was treated with physical procedures, criotherapy, ultrasound, intermittent and diadinamic currents while the other group (experimental group - 20 players) was treated with low frequency currents (LFC). LFC was applied on regions complementary yo certain acupuncture points. The mechanisms of action is the following. The stimulation of that regions with frequencies from 0,1 to 9,9 Hz causes endorphin and cortisol release. This substances decreases pain and have anti-inflammatory and anti-oedematosic action. The use of LFC with frequencies from 10 tp 20 Hz causes the release of enkephalines, dynorphines and serotonine. In experimental group we applied LFC on acupuncture points using intensity of 0,2 mA, frequencies from 4 to 15 Hz in the 30 minutes period. Physical procedures in control group lasted 20-30 minutes unless the ultrasound was used (in that case therapy lasted 3 minues). (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
