Abstract		Background. Onychomycosis is a common fungal infection, which is frequently underestimated and often regarded as a cosmetic problem. In recent years more attention is given to this disease because of its increasing incidence and association with immunosuppression and HIV infection. The importance of onychomycosis has been reconsidered and treatment possibilities are better. Conclusions. In this article I would like to stress medical and epidemiological significance of onychomycosis, the most frequent causative agents in our patients, and the importance of mycological examination for correct diagnosis and apporpriate treatment of the disease.
Summary		Izhodišča. Onihomikoze so pogoste glivične bolezni, ki se velikokrat obravnavajo bolj kot kozmetični problem. V zadnjih letih jim ponovno pozvečajo več pozornosti, kar je predvsem posledica naraščajoče pojavnosti, povezane z imunsko supresijo in okužbo s HIV 3, drugačnih pregledov na pomen te bolezni in boljših možnosti zdravljenja. Zaključki. V preglednem članku želim predstaviti medicinski in epidemiološki vidik onihomikoze, njene najpogostejše povzročitelje pri naših bolnikov ter poudariti pomen mikološkega pregleda za pravilno diagnozo in izbiro uztreznega zdravljenja.
