Abstract		The term ocular allergy encompasses a group of diseases in which there is a high frequency of atopy, ocular itching, stringly discharge and a papillary conjunctival reaction. Ocular allergic diasease is common, representing frequently in general practice. There is a wide spectrum of severity, ranging from seasonal and allergic conjunctivitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis which are mild and non-sight threatening, to vernal and atopic keratoconjunctivitis, which may affect the cornea and are therefore potentially blinding. Mast cell and eosinophil mechanisms are important in all ocular allergies, but T cell inflammation is prominent only in vernal keratoconjunctivitis, atopic keratoconjunctivitis and giant papillary conjunctivitis. Therapy involves antigen avoidance (where possible), non-specific therapy (e.g. cold compresses, artifiacial tears), specific medical therapy (e.g. antihistamines, mast cell inhibitors, corticosteroids) and in certain situations immunotherapy (e.g. cyclosporin A) and surgery.
Summary		Pojem očesna alergija zaobjema bolezni, pri katerih gre pogosto za atopijo, za srbeče oči, zdrizast izloček in papilarno reakcijo v veznici. Očesne alergijske bolezni so pogoste, velikokrat predmet obravnave v splošni praksi. Glede na težo bolezni je razpon širok, od sezonskega in kroničnega konjunktivitisa in papilarnega konjunktivitisa, ki so milejše oblike in ne ogrožajo vida, do vernalnega in atopičnega keratokonjunktivitisa, ki lahko prizadeneta roženico in zato ogrožata vid. Pri vseh očesnih alergijah so pomembne dejavnosti mastocitov in eozinofilcev. T-celično vnetje pa je izraženo pri vernalnem keratokonjunktivitisu, atopičnem keratokonjunktivitisu in papilarnem konjunktivitisu. Zdravljenje vključuje: izogibanje antigenu (če je možno), nespecifično zdravljenje (npr. hladni obkladki, umetne solze), specifično zdravljenje z zdravili (npr. antihistaminiki, zaviralci dejavnosti mastocitov, kortikosteroidi) in v posebnih primerih imunoterapija (npr. ciklosporin A) in kirurško zdravljenje.
