Abstract     As a part of the long-term process of democratic development in Slovenia and Europe, an entrepreneurial group of medical and social scientists, students, and practitioners has developed an effective Slovene voluntary organization to help children and adolescents with psychosocial problems. From a beginning with therapeutic summer colonies and summer camps, they established a year-around program which includes self-help groups. They have helped forgotten persons by recovering their own forgotten experiences, complemented with theoretical knowledge, and explained with application of some versions of systems theory and cybernetics. Children, both ill and healthy, staff, and parents have learned a lot from each other. Democratic leadership, including a lot of sensitivity to conflicts, was essential.
