Abstract     The process of transition, which over the past decade has been transforming a great part of Eastern Europe, is introducing important events into the dynamics of everyday life, the value system, and people's motives and behavior. With the different political structure, newly determined and enthusiastically received, all is well ordered, progressive and impressive (as only a long-awaited democracy can be). Yet, people's lives - far more concrete and multidimensional than the new constitution - are nonetheless permeated by perplexity, uncertainty and an indeterminate discomfort.
