Abstract		In the paper authors present data on changes of population age groups from 1989 to 1998, data on health care provision at primary level for pre-school children and school-children and youth, proportion of curative and preventive attendance of children 0-6 years and children 7-19 years in outpatient services for pre-school children and school children and youth and general practice and most frequent causes for attendance in outpatient services. Data at national and regional level are presented. The role of the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia in development of the national preventive program for pre-school children and school children and youth at primary level and surveillance of the program at regional and national level are described. In the conclusions proposals are made regarding priorities in development of the preventive programs and information system.
