Abstract     The purpose of the paper is to highlight the Ljubljana approach in rehabilitation of hemiplegic patients by functional electrical stimulation (FES). Nowadays, based on the data of clinical assessment with special regard to potentials of FES therapy, multichannel, 2-channel or 1- channel FES therapy is prescribed that lasts at least 3-4 weeks. Yearly in average 80% of hospitalized patients receive FES therapy, out of this 30% 1-channel, 57% 2-channel, 13% multichannel electrical stimulation. Recently, the 2-channel therapy is more frequently used also in the rehabilitation of upper extremities. The hybrid approach with plastic orthotic braces in combination with single channel FES is also a novelty in our routine practice.
