Abstract     The commercially available lecithin, used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food products, although a complex mixture of phospholipids and other materials, may be referred to in some literature sources as 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine with trivial chemical name phosphatidylcholine. Therapeuticaly, lecithin and derivatives have been used as a pulmonary surfactant in the treatment of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. As a precursor for acetylcholine biosynthesis and as an integral part of neuronal membranes it can be administrated to patients with neurological and psychiatric diseases. In the analysis of lecithin, beside classical methods, also chromatographic and spectroscopic techniqes are used for separation and identification of lecithin. On the basis of U.S. Pharmacopoeia and recomendations by some other sources in the quality determination of lecithin the following tests are usually made: aceton-inoluble matter, hexan-insoluble matter, volatile matter, water content, determination of arsenic, lead and havy metals, peroxide value, acid value, microbiological determinations.
Summary     Za komercialni lecitin, ki se uporablja v farmacevtskih, kozmetičnih in prehrambenih izdelkih, se kljub temu, da gre za zmes različnih fosfolipidov in drugih snovi, v nekaterih literaturnih podatkih uporablja ime 1,2-diacil-sn-glicero-3fosfoholin, s trivialnim imenom fosfatidilholin. V terapiji se lecitin in derivati uporabljajo kot površinsko aktivna snov v plučih pri terapiji sindroma respiratornega distresa pri nedonošenčkih. Kot prekurzor acetilholina in kot integralni del živčnih membran se lahko uporablja pri pacientih z nevrološkimi in psihičnimi motnjami. V analitiki lecitina se, poleg klasičnih metod, za ločbo in identifikacijo uporabljajo tudi kromatografske in spektroskopske tehnike. Glede na ameriško farmakopejo in na različna priporočila, se v kontroli kakovosti lecitina izvajajo nasednji testi: v acetonu netopne snovi, v heksanu netopne snovi, hlapne snovi, vsebnost vlage, vsebnost arzena, svinca in težkih kovin, peroksidno število, kislinsko število in mikrobiološke določitve.
