Abstract | Glutamate is the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. The excessive activation of glutamate-operated ionic channels plays a major role in neuronal death associated with a range of neuronal disorders, including status epilepticus. Kainic acid is an excitatory glutaminergic agonist and a powerful epileptogenic agent. Direct delivery of kainate to the rat brain was used as an animal epilepsy model that was characterized using electroencephalographic measurements and radio-frequency current density imaging. | |
Summary | Glutamat je eden glavnih ekscitatornih nevrotransmiterjev v centralnem živčnem sistemu. Prekomerna aktivacija ionskih kanalčkov, ki jih nadzira glutamat, ima glavno vlogo pri nevronski smrti, ta pa je povezana s številnimi patološkimi stanji, tudi z epilepsijo. Kainska kislina je ekscitatorni glutaminergični agonist in močno epileptogeno sredstvo.
