Abstract | When we speak of biodiversity we predominantly think of the wealth of plants and animals and often forget about bacteria and their role in ecosystems. In fact, bacteria developed basic life processes several billion years before the Earth was populated by plants and animals. Bacterial societies were were present in pre-ecosystems; plants and animals are their successors and may be understood as a path to the firmer evolution of homeostasis in the Earth ecosphere. | |
