Abstract		In the early 80s physicians in cities along both United States coasts noted a skin disease in young homosexuals characterized by blue-purple blots. The disease, known as Kaposi's sarcoma, became more and more frequent in this population but the reason was unknown. Among possible causes was an infectious agent. Two years later they discovered the virus today called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which was later related to the Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
