Abstract     The prevalence of hypertension increases with aging. Systolic blood pressure is the prime risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The treatment trials of hypertension in the elderly have been successful in reducing coronary heart disease events, stroke, and congestive heart failure. It is not clear how low blood pressure in the elderly should be. It is of great importance to identify the lowest level of blood pressure demanding treatment. Drug therapy is successful but should be modified individually. Isolated systolic hypertension is treated in the same manner.
