Abstract     The main theoretical basis for addiction treatment at the Department for the Treatment of Drug Addiction at the Psychiatric Hospital of Vojnik consists of the concept of addiction to psychoactive substances as a disease, the use of group treatment, and the principles of the therapeutic community as the method of choice. The therapeutic community-defined as a group of people living and working together bonded by trust and good intentions, and moving towards the common goal of complete rehabilitation-exemplifies the basic principles of the organisation of their department. Thus this contribution outlines the method of the work, the way of communicating, and the division of assignments and responsibilities among the members of the therapeutic community when the principles of the therapeutic communiry are being implemented, and not a complete presentation of the department and its activities.
