Abstract     For thousands of years women gave birth at home or with the aid of women who had collected experience while providing assistance at deliveries of other women and given birth themselves. With the development of obstetrics, deliveries have begun to take place in maternity hospitals where the woman in labour is laid in bed and surrounded with different medical equipment. In the development of obstetrics less and less attention has been paid to the parturient as a person, but in the last decade there has been a trend towards the humanization of obstetrics-attempting to restore labour and delivery as a natural and humane even for the woman giving birth. Utilizing medical and technological procedures to the correct level, we are trying to conduct labour and delivery for the benefit of women, with a humane and free choice of labour and delivery methods, and consequently to improve professional results.
