Abstract     The School for Parents at the University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ljubljana has a 45 years tradition. Pregnant women and their husbands, who visit it, mainly have secondary, college or university education. There are few women with lower education (4.3% in 1999). The number of husbands with lower education is slightly higher (10.5% in 1999). The number of attending pregnant women and their husbands is increasing even if the number of deliveries is decreasing. But there is no increment in the percentage of women with lower (primary) education. Pregnant women want their gynecologists to tell them to go to the School for Parents. It would be wise to form the School for Parents in primary medical care facilities (health centers) and to involve district nursing services.
