Abstract     The paper analyses the effectiveness of compulsory serological screening programme for toxoplasmosis conducted in Slovenia from the beginning of 1996. Seropositivity to Toxoplasma gondii was established in 34%, seronegativity in 66 % and primary infections in 0.6 % of the 21,270 pregnant women tested. Ten Toxoplasma infected asymptomatic children and two neonate with cerebral disorders were born to women treated for primary infection. The observed results seem to confirm the cost-effectiveness of the compulsory toxoplasma screening programme conducted in Slovenia.
