Abstract     The most common errors and pitfalls in primary assessment of traumatized patients are described. Life saving procedures and measures are omitted, because they are described elsewhere. With history it is very important to consider and understand the mechanism of injury. It is of primary importance to protect the injured patient at the injury site and to perform the successive life saving procedures in a safe place. If the primary investigation allows the assessment of causes that can directiy threaten the life, they have to be removed and only than the investigation can be continued. For further orientation it is necessary to know the basic previous diseases that can influence the injury. In the continuation, the most important pitfalls and errors according to organ systems are described.
