Abstract     Capnometers measure CO2 in expired air and provide clinicians with noninvasive measure of systemic metabolism, circulation and ventilation.CO2 measurements has been advocated as a method of ensuring endotracheal intubation. In patients with normal perfusion and ventilation, EtCO2 measurement closely reflect alveolar PCO2. A sudden change in EtCO2 may indicate decreased lung perfusion and an early shock state. In addition, capnometry has potential usefulness as a noninvasive indicator of the efficacy of ongoing CPR efforts.
