Abstract     To asses safety and efficacy of oral propafenone for conversion of recent onset atrial fibrillation 52 patients admitted to emergency department were studied. Of patients enrolled in the study, 30 were women and 22 men, mean age 66.9 years. Arterial hypertension was present in 50% of patients, 32.7% were without structural heart disease. Conversion rate of atrial fibrillation at 8 hours was 77%. Adverse events were observed in 3 patients: pauses of more than 2 seconds at the time of conversion to sinus rhythm and transient hypotension. Results of the study confirm efficacy and safety of oral propafenone for conversion of recent onsent atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm in patients with no signs of heart failure.
