Abstract     By definition major accident demands activation of additional rescue teams and equipment. Activity of rescue teams is not reduced, opposite to catastrophes. Good organisation is crucial, not only in the view of co-operation of all rescue teams, but also in adequate exploitation of entire equipment and workers in the working place. We are describing a case of a traffic accident between a bus full ot chilclren and a passenger-train. Rescue operation went quickly and efficiently despite the tact that it was a major accident which involved a lot of injured. There were some lucky circumstances: no heavily injured, accessible area, sunny weather, maximal participation of rescue teams, well pre-hospital emergency team organisation. There were also some deficiencies: communication between the rescue teams, traffic regulation and protection of the place of the accident . We have to plan the decisions about major accidents before they happen, which has to be the national priority. Unfortunately, it is not done enough about this problem in the organisational and material area.
