Abstract     Life today burdens us more and more and that's why more and more people consider suicide as way out. Nurses and other medical employees are the ones that face suicidal patient in their professional as well as in private lives. We have to take each suicide attempt seriously. That's why itce important to recognize signs of depressions and act accordingly. We must not judge a patient who attempted suicide but listen to him/her carefully. Doing verbal and nonverbal communication is very important and as well as our own attitude foward life itself. Althoug treatment in a emergency surgical department is aimed towards somatic reading we must not neglect the patient as a whole. Therefore we must grant every patient who attempted suicide and is not life-threatened a safe transport to a psychiatric institution.
