Abstract     Delivery is a natural physiological event, in which the child and placenta are expressed out of uterus after 40 weeks of pregnancy. This process usually takes place without complications, yet no other physiological event can deteriorate so rapidly and become lifetreatening for both mother and child. In such cases immediate intervention is needed, we speak of urgent childbirth. In this article we discuss the factors, that determine delivery course, duration of delivery periods and EMT help to give birth in prehospital settings. We describe problems which appear out in the field in extrem situations, also we present a case report. There is a report of statisticaly processed data about childbirths, transportations of pregnant women to hospital and field deliveries in region of Maribor from 1997 to 1999.
