Abstract     In the last ten years horsemanship and horsebreeding have become widespread in Slovenia. This rapid development was followed by the development of equestrian activities and sport: from dressage, show jumping, three-day event and finally therapeutic horseriding. The special features of therapeutic riding is that we work with psysically and psychologically impaired children and adolescents. Therefore, it is necessary to proceed from the child's or adolescent's capabilities and not from the horse. The aim of the article "Riding as therapy" is to present the differences between hippotherapy and other forms of therapeutic horseriding. The benefits of hippotherapy techniques and indications and contraindications for hippotherapy are presented.
