Abstract     In way of our duty we encounter different kinds of patient transport. One of them is sure the inter-hospital transport. For somebody maybe less interesting but it's an exacting part of our job. The particularity of the Ambulance Service of Izola is that this kind of transport always lasts longer than one hour. In the most of cases the patient is escorted by a medical technician - rescuer, sometimes by a Medical Doctor - anesthesiologist, Med. Tech - anesthesiologist. Or other MD or MT, depending on the patients' diagnosis. When we accept a call for an inter-hospital transport, we've got to obtain the following data: relation, patients' status, who will escort the patient and details about the technical equipment. Most important is the fact, that on the phone we are talking with a professional, trained person, which means that we can obtain all the above mentioned information about the patient and we can even call again for more information. And it is very helpful to know the patients' diagnosis and the severity of his state in advance. Before the departure we have enough time to choose the proper vehicle, check it and to make the last preparations. In our unit we have in use the VW LT, a vehicle that is classified in a category "C", MOBILE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (MICU). In the hospital we take all the information about the patients' status in the last hours from the personell, check the patient and prepare him (immobilization or other). At the end of the transport we report about all the changes or any suspicious thing during the transport to a doctor. From March 2000, we in Izola have for internal use a paper for the PATIENTS MONITORING DURING MEDICAL TRANSPORT. It's a personal idea for higher quality of supervising during the transport.
