Abstract		In the developed world preterm labour is the most important cause of perinatal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, therefore the decision on when to a terminate risk pregnancy, is of outmost importance. The physician should consider the risk of problems that may endanger the mothers life on the one hand, and the risk of diseases in the newborn specific for its gestational age on the other. Therefore, the paper presents morbidity in newborns specific for their gestational age (infections, respiratory distress syndrome, patent ductus arteriosus, chronic lung disease, intracranial hemorrhage, asphyxia, congenital malformations). For the purpose we analyzed the data of newborns, born in the Ljubljana Maternity Hospital in the 10-year period (1987-1996).
