Abstract     Sensory disturbances are a frequent symptom of diseases of the peripheral or central nervous system. Their detection and staging is difficult. Clinical assessment of nerve function is not sufficient. The use of several neurophysiologic tests is needed. Classical, routinely performed electrodiagnostic investigations (electromyography and electroneurography) are frequently overestimated. Sensations have to be quantitatively assessed by some psychophysical methods and techniques which have been developed and are safe, easy, sufficiently rapid, and at same time sensitive indices of sensations at different levels. Thermal and vibration sensibility can be quantitatively assessed by thermotest and vibrametry.
