Abstract     The modern neurophysiological method, accurate psychophysical Marstock method for thermal specific and thermal pain sensitivity determination, was performed in patients suffering from different diseases (type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, primary Sjogren's syndrome, peripheral neuropathy of different origin, syringomyelia and multiple sclerosis). Different types of abnormalities were found and no specific alteration patterns were identified. The abnormalities recorded depend on the stage of the disease. The study confirms that thermotest is a sensitive although, unfortunately, unspecific index of somatoaesthesia. The method is appropriate for following the disease or rehabilitation progression. For an exact diagnosis of somatosensory dysfunctions, aberrant sensations are at least equally important as hypo- or hyperaesthetic phenomena.
