Abstract		The history and evolution of maxillofacial traumatology are reviewed with a special emphasis on the evaluation and advantages of rigid fixation methods. The evolution of specific techniques for maxillofacial osteosynthesis is compared to general traumatology techniques. The update situation worldwide and in Croatia is discussed.
Summary		Članek podaja pregled razvoja maksilofacialne travmatologije po svetu in na Hrvaškem s posebnim poudarkom na razvoju in prednostih sodobnih metod stabilne osteosinteze. Prikazuje razvoj specifične maksilofacialne osteosinteze v primerjavi s tehnikami v splošni travmatologiji ter razpravlja o trenutni situaciji na Hrvaškem in po svetu.
