Abstract     Treatment methods and complication rates of fractures treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Ljubljana over two five-year periods are compared with data from medical literature. The majority of mandibular fractures were treated by closed methods, while wire ostheosynthesis was almost completely abandoned and replaced by open reposition and screw and plate fixation. Among complications, an increase of malocclusions was observed; this was probably due to the use of rigid stainless-steel osteosynthetic materials, as well as the surgeons' lack of experience. An increase in the use of semirigid open treatment methods is expected in the future.
Ugotavljamo velik delež nekirurško zdravljenih zlomov, opuščanje zdravljenja z žično osteosintezo ter porast zdravljenja z odprto repozicijo z učvrstitvijo z vijaki in ploščicami. Med zapleti ugotavljamo porast malokluzij, kar pripisujemo togosti jeklenega osteosintetskega materiala ter pomanjkanju izkušenj. V prihodnosti pričakujemo porast uporabe semirigidnih osteosintetskih tehnik.
