Abstract     Lindberg's method of phage typing and Gillies and Govans method of pyocin typing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were introduced in our laboratory. Three hundred thirty strains, isolated from patients from broad Ljubljana region, between Nov. 1985 and May 1986, were typed. The epidemiological value and usefullness of typing methods for detecting nosocomial infections were avaluated and most prevalent pyocin types and subtypes among our isolates were determined. Ten nosocomial infections were discovered retrospectively in seven hospital wards. Different phage types and pyocin types were found in 22,7% of multiple subseqvent isolates from the same patients, hospitalised for a longer period of time and eight out of ten mutants, resistant against carbenicillin. Different phage types and different pyocin types were found in 14 and 7 strains, respectively, retyped after 12 months storage on stock ager.
